Rev. Anne Abdy

Join the Holy Cross Parish Life Team: Building Community, One Event at a Time!

Are you friendly, creative, organized and self-motivated? Do you enjoy meeting new people, planning fun activities and helping others? Can you develop and promote engaging events for a variety of audiences? Can you coordinate and promote parish fellowship? These statements were taken from a few Parish Life Coordinator Job Descriptions. If you like to do all the above, then this team is for YOU! No, Holy Cross is not hiring a Parish Life Coordinator, instead Holy Cross is going to re-engage our Parish Life Team. I do want team members to be creative, able to plan fun activities and events that will promote parish fellowship.

I bring this to your attention because I am tapping into the energy from this past Sunday’s Parish Meeting. I left feeling injected with the excitement of all who were present. Here are just some of the events and activities of the year that began with the Cub Scouts, Pancakes at Shrove Tuesday, the Vestry retreat, the DOK retreat, all that the men contribute to the upkeep of the building and property including the kitchen floor and new kitchen sink. Vittles and Vineyards as our main fundraiser, the Men’s Breakfast and Women’s Brunches on Saturday. And more recently –the Community Free Hotdog meal give away, games and music. So much has taken place in the past eight months. I know I have not named them all.  You can fill in the blanks.  We have done ___________.

We have raised the money to pay off the mortgage with the Legacy Fund. For your contributions, Holy Cross is grateful! For those who are still fulfilling their pledge, Holy Cross thanks you! Now, we can turn the page. Together we can re-imagine the future of this parish.

It has become clear to me that Holy Cross is a very social parish. Members gather after services, go to the movies, lunch dates during the week, and even exercise together (shout out to the Pickle ballers). All this develops community. We are a community. We are a family.

We want to be that caring community to those around us. Paraphrasing our Senior Warden, Becky Underwood, who says, “We are a mission church with outreach being the backbone of all that we do!”  So how do we take care of our neighbors? We plan events that foster efforts at evangelism with special attention towards the ministerial needs of the community. This is a Parking Lot ministry.

So, what does all this mean for you? It means that these team of members will plan the annual events of the year, maybe include some new parish life events (such as, attending theater productions, CAM Museum exhibits, activities with no cost, etc.), and to plan parish life events (such as, Spaghetti Supper, Movie nights, etc.) on site that allow for us to reach out to the neighborhood.

I say again, if this resonates with you, the Parish Life Team is YOUR MINISTRY! Let’s come together and build community and have FUN while we’re at it!

Blessings,

Rev. Anne
