This week from the Southeastern United States all the way to New England has been blanketed in snow. From what I understand, communities are coming together across the states to “share” snow ploughs and other snow or de-icing equipment to support small coastal towns from Louisiana to Florida. Here in the Cape Fear Region we’ve had the pleasure and joy to experience the snow too. I pray that you are allowing yourself to enjoy the experience–this gift of the snow. I remember my first experience of seeing snow on the beach when I first moved to New Jersey and lived in the small coastal town of Sea Bright. By that time, I had lived in the states about 12 years and had experienced snowy winters before, yet seeing snow on the beach was different. That was new! It seemed odd and out of place as the waves crashed near the white stuff.

Experts say that no two snowflakes are the same. Just look at the picture. Yes, the snowflakes may not be the same and yet are stunningly beautiful!

These pictures got me thinking. As children of God, we are made in God’s own image, and at the same time we are unique. We have unique personalities or values. Each chooses their own destiny in life as we make decisions and choices on this journey here on earth. So, like the snowflake, each person creates their own beauty.

I believe that God does not create muck. In the Genesis creation stories, we read that each day God looked back at what He had done that day, and said to Himself, “I am pleased.” So, like the snowflake, we are beautiful in God’s sight. You are a beautiful child of God. Enjoy the snow!
