To the People of God,
The past twenty-four hours as the cold weather once again has settled in, I have been reflecting on those activities that I have historically done and still do today when I want to “hunker” down. When I want to curl up on the sofa with a cup of hot tea or coffee.
I never grew up with television so typically that is not my go to. On those days I might want to catch up on the news to make sure that the world around me still exists! On those days I want to catch up with some dear friends. Yes, friends. BOOKS! I love to read. I have always loved to read. I remember many trips to the Walvis Bay Library. In fact, thirty-eight years later when I visited my childhood hometown, I went to the library and walked straight into the children’s section to the bookshelves where I found my favorite books. Enid Blyton’s Noddy and Big Ears series, Richard Scarry’s Books about the fictional town of Busytown populated by various animals living the ordinary lives that you and I do today. Stories about shopping or riding the bus or going to work.
As I got a little older my focus turned to the detective book series of Nancy Drew and the Famous Five Books for youth. I loved to read then, and I still do. What are your favorite childhood books?
At the beginning of the year Stacy and I have started re-reading the Bible (this will be our second go around) using the text, The Daily Bible: In Chronological Order 365 Daily Readings With Devotional Insights To Guide You Through God’s Word. What makes this Bible special to me is that there is a commentary written by F. LaGard Smith at the beginning of your daily reading which sets the stage for the five to six pages to be read that day. I’ve always known that the Bible is a great read. There is drama, relationship building, great battles, love and commitment . . . and this just describes the tip of the iceberg. The Bible has it all! No wonder it is the single best selling book in the world.
Blessings,
Rev. Anne+
